A Garments Pattern Master / Gerber Technician turns fashion drawings into real clothes using a computer program called Gerber Accumark. They create the “blueprints” or templates used to cut fabric in factories.
Here are the main responsibilities in simple terms:
- Make Digital Patterns: Look at a designer’s sketch and use the computer to draw the flat shapes (sleeves, collars, fronts, backs) needed to sew the garment together.
- Fix the Fit: Test the pattern on a mannequin or model. If the clothes are too tight, wrinkly, or loose, they change the digital shapes until the item fits perfectly.
- Create Sizes: Use the computer to automatically scale the master pattern into different sizes, making sure an XS and an XXL look the same.
- Save Fabric: Arrange the pattern pieces on the digital screen like a puzzle. The goal is to fit them as closely together as possible, so the factory doesn’t waste expensive fabric when cutting.
- Send to Production: Send the final digital files and sewing instructions to the factory floor so mass production can begin.
